Web Design Trend Predictions for 2023

BY FABSITE

The end of 2022 is fast approaching, so we decided to take a look at some of the best trends we expect to see taking the web by storm in 2023.

One Page Website

The popularity of one-page websites has been growing in momentum over the last few months and as we head into 2023, it looks to be a trend that will only continue to grow.

Of course, one page websites aren’t suitable for every business. The businesses that get the most benefit are those that are offering a single or limited number of products or services. A one page website allows the business to use more impactful images, more concise text, and include short and snappy calls to action.

Feel-Good Colors

2023 colour schemes are focusing on feel-good shades and colours that spark joy, not just in everyday life but also in web design projects.

Bright colours including purples, greens, and yellows will all be playing an important role, creating an eye-catching visual. One colour to look out for in particular is Viva Magenta, the Pantone Colour of the Year. This beautiful red-purple shade is powerful and empowering and would make a striking choice as a main website colour or an accent.

Overlapping Typography

For many years, the text on headers and images has been formatted to stay within the lines, however, as we move into 2023, we’re seeing a move towards overlapping text. Large headings spread across several images, tying them together in a completely new way.

Overlapping text also works well with other web design trends including collage style images and gradients.

Retro & Art Deco Design

Two of the main stylistic trends for 2023 are Retro and Art Deco.

The first sees web designers stepping back over twenty years to Y2K. With this fun and visually appealing style, anything goes, from pastel shades to pixelated images. It’s a modern look that truly encapsulates today’s computer-focused society.

The second draws on influences from the 1920s and 1930s, to create a more opulent aesthetic. With geometric lines, stylish art, floral motifs, and gold elements, it is a style that can combine beautifully with a modern, minimalist design that includes a dark, moody colour palette.

Accessibility

Following on from the accessibility regulations that were passed in 2018, we have continued to see more and more focus being given to accessible websites. In 2023, we expect to see even more focus on this as businesses across the globe try to create websites that cater to a wide range of customer requirements.

Our blog, Accessible Website Design, Why Is It Important? goes into more detail about some of the issues faced by users with disabilities and the ways web designers can make their sites usable by everyone.

Text Only & Full Page Headers

Over the years, web designers have focused on creating websites that include image rich (often scrolling) banners. These banners have been an important tool in communicating information on ecommerce websites, allowing visitors to see the products available and view relevant offers and promotions.

Whilst we don’t see this changing for the majority of ecommerce websites, we are seeing a move away from it where businesses are providing a service.

The use of full page banners, with a plain coloured, slightly textured or fluid shaped background and large text using weird and wonderful fonts allows the web designer to create an eye-catching visual that is memorable for its clean yet unique look.
